From 2–4 March 2026, the New Zealand Sustainable Initiative Trust (NZSIT) participated in the University of Auckland’s O Week activities, engaging with international students and promoting environmental awareness on campus.
During the three-day event, representatives from the Trust spoke with nearly 300 international students, introducing practical guidance on proper waste sorting and effective food scraps recycling practices. The initiative aimed to help students better understand New Zealand’s sustainability efforts and encourage environmentally responsible habits in daily life.
The event also attracted strong interest from students, with more than 100 students signing up to join the Trust’s volunteer team, demonstrating growing enthusiasm among international students to participate in environmental protection and community initiatives.
The booth also welcomed visits from representatives of the National Party, the Labour Party, and members of the Local Board. During their visit, they had in-depth conversations with students and organisers, highlighting New Zealand’s strong commitment to environmental protection.
They emphasized that New Zealand is a beautiful country that places great importance on sustainability and environmental stewardship. International students were encouraged to actively participate in environmental initiatives and contribute to protecting the country’s natural environment.
The New Zealand Sustainable Initiative Trust would also like to extend special thanks to our partner, the New Zealand Chinese Students Association, for providing the opportunity and support to promote environmental awareness and sustainability initiatives among international students.
The Trust expressed its appreciation to all participating students for their enthusiasm and engagement, and looks forward to continuing its work to promote sustainable practices within the community.
