AUCKLAND – On 20 March 2026, the New Zealand Sustainable Initiative Trust (NZSIT) successfully hosted its 2026 Annual Welcome Party at O3 Café in Auckland. The event brought together nearly 50 students, community leaders, and environmental advocates to strengthen ties between the youth community and wider society while exploring pathways for sustainable growth.
The evening featured distinguished guests, including former New Zealand Member of Parliament Naisi Chen, Howick Local Board Member Kai Zeng, and Deputy Chair of the Auckland Chinese Association, Bo LI.
The event opened with a warm welcome from NZSIT’s Chief Operating Officer, Colly, who served as the Master of Ceremonies. Special acknowledgement was given to Ken Liu, founder of O3 Café, Oyster Founder, and NZSIT Trustee, for providing the vibrant venue. Following the opening, Tyler led the audience in a traditional Karakia ceremony, setting a grounded and culturally respectful tone for the evening.
NZSIT Chairman Ming Gao delivered the keynote remarks, articulating the organization’s vision of advancing environmental practices and fostering civic engagement. He emphasized that NZSIT is more than an environmental group; it is a platform designed to connect people, support personal growth, and create meaningful career opportunities.
During the guest sharing session, Kai Zeng drew upon his experience as a University of Pennsylvania graduate to share his journey into New Zealand public life. As a “post-2000s” leader, he encouraged young attendees to break conventions and find their own paths through continuous exploration.
Former MP Naisi Chen took the stage as the headline guest. As the youngest Chinese MP in New Zealand’s history, she shared invaluable insights from her career, including her role in high-level diplomatic missions to China. Her speech focused on life choices, career planning, and staying true to one’s values in a complex world—earning enthusiastic applause from the audience.
The event also served as a platform to recognize community contribution. Naisi Chen, Kai Zeng, and Li Bo jointly presented certificates of recognition to volunteers who demonstrated outstanding dedication during the 2026 Chinese New Year Community Celebration. Deputy Chair Li Bo praised their selfless service, encouraging more youth to engage in community initiatives.
NZSIT General Manager Tyler concluded the formal program by introducing the organization’s upcoming projects. He noted that NZSIT will continue to roll out diverse events centered on sustainable development and invited like-minded individuals to join the cause.
The evening transitioned into a relaxed social networking dinner. Over food and board games, guests and students mingled freely, exchanging ideas in a convivial atmosphere. Many attendees noted that they walked away not only with new friendships but also with fresh professional inspiration.
As a dynamic non-profit organization, NZSIT remains committed to working hand-in-hand with all sectors of society to empower the next generation of leaders in New Zealand.
